Opportunities in the JVZ lab
Graduate - I accept graduate students, generally PhD students, but also sometimes Masters students, through the Freshwater and Marine Science or Zoology Graduate programs. Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in joining my lab, as graduate positions are often not openly advertised. Most years I accept 1 new graduate student, depending on the availability of funding (research grants). It may be a little while before I get back to you. At this point (Oct 2020), I am not sure whether I'll be taking any new students next academic year. I would encourage you to get in touch with other faculty at the Center for Limnology, and the Freshwater and Marine Science program.
Postdoctoral - Postdoctoral positions are advertised as they become available. Currently I do not have any postdoctoral openings.
Undergraduate - The Vander Zanden lab involves many undergraduates in research. Numerous undergraduates are employed during the summer field season based at Trout Lake Station, Madison, and elsewhere. Many of these undergraduates are also involved in research during the academic year through directed studies (Zoo 699) projects carried out within my lab.
Technician - There are occasionally paid research technician positions in the Vander Zanden lab. These positions are advertised as they become available.
Volunteer and internships - Volunteering and interning are great ways to gain experience and get your foot in the door!
